Published on

The Board of Directors of the Society for Business Ethics is pleased to announce that the new co-Editors in Chief of Business Ethics Quarterly will be Professors Mollie Painter and Frank den Hond, beginning in August 2021. Professors den Hond and Painter will be succeeding Professor Bruce Barry, whose five-year term as Editor in Chief concludes in August 2021. Their position as co-Editors in Chief also entails a position on the Executive Board of the Society for the same length of term.

Professor Frank den Hond is the Ehrnrooth Professor in Management and Organisation at Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki, Finland, and is affiliated to the Department of Organization Sciences in the Faculty of Social Sciences, at Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He has a long record of publications in corporate social responsibility, social movements, and corporate political activity. He also served as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Organization Studies, and is co-editor of the Springer’s Issues in Business Ethics series.

Professor Mollie Painter currently leads the Responsible and Sustainable Business Lab at Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University. She is also Extraordinary Professor and part-time Academic Director of the Center for Business Ethics at the Gordon Institute of Business Science, University of Pretoria in South Africa. Previously she was Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at DePaul University and served as Associate Director of DePaul’s Institute for Business and Professional Ethics, as well as serving as Academic Director of the Academy of Business in Society (ABIS) in Belgium, and Coca- Cola Chair for Sustainable Development at IEDC-Bled in Slovenia. She has an extensive publication record in business ethics, continental philosophy and moral theory, CSR, and sustainability. She was Editor-in-Chief of the Business and Professional Ethics Journal, and is co-editor of the Springer’s Issues in Business Ethics series.

The SBE Board is extremely pleased that Professors Painter and den Hond will serve as BEQ’s first pair of co-Editors in Chief. The Executive Director of SBE, Jason Stansbury, writes “Frank and Mollie together bring a remarkable depth of understanding in both normative and social-scientific inquiry, both of which will remain important for BEQ in the years to come. Their years of editorial experience with two journals and a book series, and academic careers that span three continents, complement the breadth of outlooks that have made BEQ successful for three decades.” Current Editor in Chief Bruce Barry adds that “Mollie and Frank are the right editors not just to sustain the journal’s quality and reputation, but also to expand and diversify its perspective.” The new editorial team is committed to addressing the need for gender and cultural inclusivity, as well as the promotion of methodological and disciplinary diversity in business ethics research.
